Mercy is a maydeR.5.658:
R's mayde is unique in the B tradition; all other
witnesses attest maydene. However, witnesses in the C
tradition are split on this reading, most of the X family agreeing with the B majority while most of the P family (as well as several of the X grouping) concur
with R's form. þere hath miȝt ouer hem alle .
Þere a[is] a Mayde þere / Mercy / she haþ myght ouer hem alle.
